The rock gardens can be divided into several categories, depending plants, material or technique by which they are made.
Mediterranean rocky garden
As its name, the rock garden includes Mediterranean plants, resistant to Mediterranean climatic conditions, ie a relatively mild winter and hot, dry summer. Includes many aromatic plants, characteristics of the Mediterranean region, eg. thyme, oregano, lavender.

Aqueous rock
Garden combines water (Brooks – Lakes) with the rocks. The seedlings are more hydrophilic e.g.. ferns, skolopendrio, asplenio.
